Italo Toselli was born in Nettuno, Rome, Italy. He attended the Italian Navy Academy (21th AUC course) and he became an Officer in 2002. As an Officer he had the opportunity to learn how to sail vessels under the supervision of the Admiral Ugo Foschini. Pushed by his sailing passion, Italo earned the “unlimited off-shore” sailing license in 2004 (he attended a course by the “Lega Navale Italiana” and he  passed the required Italian Coast Guard exams). Since then, he has been in command of sailing vessels in the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic and Pacific oceans and Sea of Cortez. As an example of  good sailing skills, he sailed single handed his O'Day 25’ from Monterey (California) to Mexico. 

Dr. Italo Toselli is a United States Coast Guard licensed Captain (OUPV) and he is the President of Cortomaltesevela. Because he puts preparation and safety first, Italo also obtained the IMO-STCW Basic Training package courses

Italo Toselli is a skipper with a very strong scientific education: 

He has received his MS degree (2002) in electronics engineering from La Sapienza University (Italy) and his postgraduate master in information technology (2002) from Cefriel-Politecnico di Milano (Italy) followed by his Ph.D. (2008) in electronics and communication engineering from Politecnico di Torino (Italy).  Since more almost 20 years, he is an active researcher on laser beam propagation through the atmosphere and Ocean publishing more than 50 scientific publications in this field. He has been an invited speaker at several SPIE and Optica (former OSA) conferences, he is a Senior member of Optica and a member of SPIE. He serves as reviewer for main journals and he is a committee member of a SPIE conference.
